`Countdown to the Rains' was a highly ambitious three part series made by Tigress Productions. A 20-strong team of engineers, technicians, production staff and presenters spent five weeks on the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia, charting the transition from dry season to wet, and documenting the implications for the wildlife. For herbivores, the dry season meant regular trips to rink at the water, where predators lay in wait. The team rigged dozens of cameras - some standalone, some remotely operated - along the banks to capture behaviour that crews would have disrupted. the result - three programmes packed with incident, from crocs feasting on the carcass of a baby hippo, to a mother lion and her hours old cubs, and a rare pack of wild dogs blissfully unconcerned by our attention.
